Breath-taking tourism experience for the brave

South Australia is the only state in Australia where visitors can have a close encounter with majestic great white sharks, through a cage diving experience.

Visitors who undertake the experience have the opportunity to view great white sharks in their own habitat, as well as a getting a unique underwater view of other marine life in the crystal clear waters of the conservation park.

This tourism enterprise makes a significant contribution to public education about sharks and why they are a protected species.

The cage diving tours are an example of how carefully regulated tourism activity can operate successfully inside a protected marine area - balancing the needs of industry and nature.

New licences were issued in July 2012 to three operators to enable the cage diving in the waters of the Neptune Islands Conservation Park near Port Lincoln on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula.
