West Coast Bays

Come and swim alongside wild Australian sea lions in the sheltered waters of Baird Bay within the West Coast Bays Marine Park.

Located in the heart of the unique Chain of Bays region of South Australia’s rugged west, the park is home to a wide range of plants and animals, including several significant fish nurseries and the unique tropical sea star 'Little Patty', which is found no where else in the world.

With a backdrop of spectacular surf beaches, cliffs, rocky headlands and large shallow estuaries, tours are available to swim with the park’s wild marine mammals, including the option to swim with the dolphins in the open sea.

There are also great fishing opportunities, with the park providing ideal habitats for King George whiting, flounder, snapper, southern sea garfish and flathead.

Bird enthusiasts can watch the local and migratory shore and sea birds that come to the area to nest, some of national and international significance, while the park also hosts breeding and feeding sites for white-bellied sea eagles and osprey.

Access to the West Coast Bays Marine Park is from Yanerbie, Sceale Bay, Baird Bay, Venus Bay and Port Kenny.
